Paintings

see the world…slightly reimagined

Ink, colored pencil, soft but mostly oil pastel, I stitch together scenes from any time or location. Work with me to create the ultimate vantage point of your third place, compose a still life of your favorite books and foods, travel the world from Buenos Aires to Tokyo or you may find you just need a certain color to compliment the wall and couch.

I do not know if “painting” is the correct term, but there is a great deal of mixing and blending with an overall effect which I believe looks more like a painting than a drawing. The effect is created by smudging oil pastels together and overlapping them with soft pastel. I use colored pencil and pen to highlight details and lines, though I am conservative in using them. The paintings are created on mixed media paper.

Custom paintings can be made 18” by 24” to 3’ by 4’

Tango in Buenos Aires takes place at a subway stop on the way to the Plaza de Mayo (city center). Buenos Aires is known as the “Paris of South America” and derives the name from the European architecture and cobblestone streets. Line A is the oldest subway line in South America. Though it may seem strange that all the restaurants and cafes are empty in the evening, residents of Buenos Aires eat later around 10:00 pm.

Drake’s World Map on Wine features maps from Sir Francis Drake’s circumference of the globe. The Elizabethans amazingly knew much about the world even though Drake was only the second man (with his crew) to circumference it (and the Spanish definitely didn’t share their discoveries though enemy discoveries were often made light through spies). Interestingly and obviously, Drake had to suppose and fill much of the map in. Amazingly, he supposed there to be a continent where Australia is and added Australia to the map. Also amazingly is he “discovered” Northern California and named it Nova Albion and claimed it for Queen Elizabeth I. The book has a Celtic design and the still life is loosely based on Dutch still life.

Fall in Nunez is a painting of a residential neighborhood in Buenos Aires. The neighborhood is reminiscent of an eclectic mix of European side streets lined with cobble stones and lit with antique street lamps.
